Leave No Trace Level 2 Instructor Course

Fee: $375/person

A $125 deposit is due with your registration. Balance of fees is due 30 days prior to the start of the course.

The BSA is actively recruiting Scouting volunteers everywhere to become Leave No Trace Instructors. The Leave No Trace Level 2 Instructor Course provides participants with an in-depth understanding of the impacts associated with Scouting’s outdoor program and prepares them to become the best possible teachers of Leave No Trace.

Summit Bechtel Reserve BSA Leave No Trace Level 2 Instructor Course

Front Country, non-Trek Format

This option does not require hiking long distances. Camping is preferred but optional.
Accessible options are available.

This 5-day course features 2 days of classroom instruction, and 3 days of immersive practical application in a variety of “front country” settings designed to replicate typical Scouting outdoor programs.

A major goal for this course is to graduate effective and active Leave No Trace Level 2 Instructors who will return to their home council and conduct the Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructor courses needed to support their unit, district, and council outdoor programs. 

All food, campsite assignments, class materials, and group gear will be provided by the Summit Bechtel Reserve as a part of the registration fee. Transportation to and from Summit Bechtel Reserve is not included in the fee.

Participants are required to provide their own tent and personal gear for a participant attending James C. Justice National Scout Camp.

Course graduates are nationally recognized by Leave No Trace as certified Leave No Trace Level 2 Instructors.
Re-certification is required every two years.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Be a member of the BSA.

Be at least 18 years of age by the time of the course.

Provide a current BSA Health and Medical Record signed by a physician
(parts A through C including Summit Risk Advisory).

Arrival & Check in: Sunday Afternoon, May 12, 2024

Departure: Friday Night, May 17 or Saturday Morning May 18, 2024
