Mountaineer Weekends

Mountaineer Weekends are the perfect way to get a feel for The Summit in a short period of time, whether passing through or just making a weekend of it.

Get a taste of the adventure and action sports opportunities available at the BSA’s newest national base — The Summit Bechtel Reserve — located in Southern West Virginia. The Mountaineer Weekend program gives you access to all venues in the Scott Summit Center. This area is a microcosm of the Summit with sample versions of each of the exciting activities found elsewhere on the property.

This program is for registered Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts and Venturers.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
If you want more adventure on the front or back-end of your Mountaineer Weekend program, consider some of the outdoor options available in Southern West Virginia, including opportunities in the New River Gorge National River (www.nps.gov/neri) and West Virginia State Parks (www.wvstateparks.com). An overview of other opportunities in Southern West Virginia can be found at www.visitwv.com.

WHITEWATER RAFTING
While whitewater trips are not part of the Mountaineer Weekend program, many units have found it convenient to schedule whitewater trips on Thursdays immediately prior to arrival at the Summit.

When planning a whitewater trip, we recommend contacting a professional, licensed outfitter. While the Summit does not endorse specific outfitters, we do have relationships with the following vendors who provide services to the Summit and whose guides have completed Youth Protection training, BSA Safe Swim and Safety Afloat training and passed a background check.
